Baltimore Comic-Con!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 22, 2010 by bradd

This weekend (Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29) I’ll be in artists’ alley at the Baltimore Comic-Con.  This will be my first time at Baltimore, but from what I gather from friends, it’s a great show.  The guest line-up is really incredible (Todd McFarlane, Terry Moore, Bernie Wrightson, and lots more).  Check it out here!

In addition to my Gloomy Roomies comics and Unlife is Good t-shirts, I’ll have lots of new Alpha-Sketch cards and prints as well as about twenty hand-drawn originals.  As always, I’ll be available for commissions if there’s a certain character you’d like to see get the Alpha-Sketch treatment.

If you’re in the area, I hope to see you there!

Thank You, Kentucky!

I had a great time at the Fright Night Film Festival!   Thanks to those of you that stopped by the table and are now checking out the site.  I’ve got many of the cards and prints that I had at the con available for sale on the store pages over at the Alpha-Sketch site.  Images should be up for everything, with most cards/prints having buttons for purchase.  If you see something that reads “coming soon” and you can’t wait a couple of days for all of the purchase buttons to be in place, just e-mail me and we can arrange payment.

I hope I don’t leave anyone out, but here are a few folks I’d like to thank.  Check out their sites when you have a moment:

Ken and Myra Daniels – con organizers, http://www.frightnightfilmfest.com

Chris Hamer – artist extraordinaire whose antics kept me entertained for the weekend, http://www.urbnpop.com

Sam Flegal – another artist of extraordinary magnitude and driver of the van with the best A/C I’ve ever experienced, http://www.samflegal.com

Jay Fife – another great artist and cool dude. I have an Alpha-Sketch pin-up coming up in the next issue of his comic series Mary Monster. http://www.jayfife.com

Rob Scott – Rondo-Award-winning artist who I was fortunate to meet and swap art with. Extremely cool stuff and a great guy. http://www.scottra.com

Uncle Bill & The Creepy Kentuckian – if you like horror and four-letter words and don’t already listen to their talk-radio show, do yourself a favor and check out the weekly madness over at http://www.deadpit.com

Joe Garcia – maker of the some of the best horror t-shirts around and a terrific gent. http://www.fastcustomshirts.com

And those are just the folks with websites…big thanks also to Matthew Essary, James and Abby Roberts, Jessica Frost, slowrider, and everyone else kind enough to stop by the table and hang out.

Biggest thanks of all to Nikki who put with me and the heat for three days as the convention center’s AC was struck by lightning prior to the con and was out of commission for the duration.  She rules, and I’m very lucky.

Fright Night Film Fest!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 29, 2010 by bradd

If you’re near Louisville, Kentucky why not check out the Fright Night Film Fest this Friday (July 30) through Sunday (August 1)?  It’s a great show with lots of cool people to meet, new films to watch, and a room full of great vendors.  Roger Corman, Tyler Mane, Heather Langenkamp, Tom Atkins, and plenty more entertaining guests will be in attendance for all the autograph seekers out there.

I’ll be at Fright Night peddling my Alpha-Sketch cards and prints,”Gloomy Roomies” comics and buttons, and “Unlife is Good” t-shirts and stickers.  Be sure to stop by the table and say “hi.”  For you horror fans, I’ve really done a lot of new genre sketches (“Star Wars” characters as well – not really horror, I know…unless you count the prequels!).  They’ll all find their way to the store soon.  Here’s an Alpha-Sketch I finished just tonight – a recreation of the original “Halloween” theatrical poster.

Hope to see you at Fright Night!

Thanks Fanaticon!

It’s been a week now, and I’m still in awe of Fanaticon.  While I have enjoyed  every con I’ve attended, Fanaticon was a different kind of show.  The primary differences being that it was a free-admission show held in an art museum located in a downtown area of an artsy town with lots of foot traffic.  It was extremely well-organized and promoted from my point of view.  As a result, the turn-out was tremendous with the official count being around 3,500 attendees.  I didn’t have a chance to leave the table as business was brisk throughout the day, but judging from the extensive convention program, there was something for everyone at Fanaticon.  Comics, toys, costumes, live music, movie screenings, trivia contests, multiple raffles – it was packed!  While I didn’t get to talk to them as much as I would have liked, it was great catching up with fellow creators and friends Bobby Nash, Chris Hamer, and John Aston.  If you haven’t checked out their stuff, please do – they’re gentlemen and scholars all.

Thanks to Richard Morgan – owner of Richard’s Comics and Collectables in Greenville, SC – for his help in working the table.  I’d also like to thank everyone that stopped by the table to check out Alpha-Sketch, Gloomy Roomies, and Unlife is Good.   I enjoyed talking with all of you.  It was great to see some returning folks from previous shows.  As always, I appreciate your continued interest and support.  Several of you have inquired about custom Alpha-Sketch commissions.  I’ve put up details on how to make that happen for those interested.
